Marvel at Hull Youth Centre’s musical collaboration with My Pockets

Young people at Hull’s Andrew Marvell Youth Centre have worked with Yorkshire production company My Pockets to create two new songs.

How Far?’ and ‘Have Fun’ are the latest creations by My Pockets, a Yorkshire-based production company and arts organisation that has worked with Hull City Council many times. Previous notable projects include the award-winning anti-racism campaign video ‘Just Ignore It’ with Youth Aspire Connect, and ‘Dream On’, an animation created with teenagers from Hull Young Voices Influencing Care.

The young people that took part were involved in the songwriting and production of both songs, as well as the accompanying videos, both on screen and behind the scenes.

The collaboration between young people at Andrew Marvell Youth Centre and My Pockets is supported by Hull City Council and Youth Music, a charity that believes every young person deserves the chance to transform their life through the power of music.

Dean Davis, Youth Work Manager at Hull City Council, said: “Music is such a powerful way for young people to express their emotions, experiences and ideas. Projects like this show the real value of youth work, providing a safe, creative space where young people can build confidence, develop new skills, and have their voices heard. We’re incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved through this collaboration.”

Councillor Linda Tock, portfolio holder for children’s services, said: “‘How Far?’ is a moving piece of music that, thanks to My Pockets, has given young people at Andrew Marvell Youth Centre a voice.

“This song also reinforces Hull’s bid to become a UNESCO Creative City of Music and helps us to further build our reputation as a city rich in musical culture.”
