Extra school bus routes added

Extra busses have been added to timetables to make travel safer for the city’s students. As schools prepare to return next week, Hull City Council has worked with bus companies and schools to add additional routes where demand is expected to be highest. More busses will allow for adherence to Covid-safe guidance on maintaining social distancing, which means the number of people who can travel at once is restricted.

Jo Moxon, Assistant Director of Learning and Skills at Hull City Council, said: “As schools return with full cohorts of pupils after such a long break, it’s essential we prioritise safety. Additional services are necessary to allow these dedicated school services, which aren’t open to members of the public, to carry smaller numbers of students.

“I would urge parents and older pupils to ensure they know their bus times, stops and routes ahead of time and also make sure you know, understand and follow on-board safety guidance.

“We’re all pleased to be welcoming young people back and want everyone to feel safe and be safe. We all have a part to play in getting back to school safely and must continue to take care of each other by following guidance, take notice of what we’re asked to do and any new information and take action to get a test and isolate should we need to”.

Advice for those using the bus is:

  • Wash or sanitise hands before and after travelling
  • Paying by contactless or buying tickets online/via app wherever possible
  • Following social distancing signs on board regular service buses
  • For secondary school age pupils, face coverings are required on public transport and recommended on dedicated home to school transport unless you are exempt
  • Do not travel or attend school if you have any coronavirus symptoms, however mild. Immediately isolate with your household and book a test.
