A painting conservation framework is to be introduced to conserve over 30 historic maritime paintings from Hull Maritime Museum’s collection.
To support the design, development and delivery of the city’s major maritime heritage programme, Hull City Council require painting conservation services in advance of the main £27.4m project, scheduled for 2020 and subject to Heritage Lottery Funding approval, to ensure the paintings can be safely moved, conserved and eventually rehung in the refurbished Hull Maritime Museum.
The services will support the key deliverables for the project, around the renovation of the Grade II listed Hull Maritime Museum and the renewed exhibition and interpretation of artefacts.
So far, Hull Culture and Leisure who operate the Hull Maritime Museum on behalf of Hull City Council have identified 30 important paintings and works of art that require restoration, some dating back to the 1900’s.
Hull City Council has today published a decision record to confirm it will award three painting restoration and conservation specialists a place on the framework, having passed the relevant thresholds. They include Critchlow & Kukkonen Ltd, Ruth Bubb Limited and Hirst Conservation Limited.
