Programme to build workforce resilience for Hull employers to launch

A new integrated workforce health programme designed specifically for Hull businesses and employers is being launched this month.

Hull Resilience Hub, an initiative from The Latus Group, supported by Hull City Council, and aligned with the national Keep Britain Working Review, is hosting its founding member event on Monday 15 June at the University of Hull.

The Hub has been created to help to keep Hull’s workforce healthy and in work, in turn leading to a more productive local economy.

In Hull alone, workforce ill health is estimated to cost £500m every year through absence, presenteeism, churn, agency costs and lost productivity.

Hull Resilience Hub has been created to change this and the launch event will include presentations, discussion and a live panel exploring how Hull can lead the UK in workforce resilience and employer-led health innovation.

The Hub’s programme will provide access to occupational health, fast GP access, physiotherapy, mental health support, proactive health checks and return-to-work support, whilst also helping to relieve pressures on the NHS.

The launch event’s panel will feature the leader of the council, Cllr Mike Ross, alongside Keep Britain Working’s Sir Charles Mayfield and Jack Latus, CEO of The Latus Group.

Cllr Ross said: “So often, an organisation’s greatest asset is the people who work for it. Hull Resilience Hub is a great example of organisations coming together to support our economy and, more importantly, our people.

“Through providing this sort of service that supports the workforce in this way, it will also help benefit Hull’s economy and hopefully help our city continue to thrive and be prosperous.

“I look forward to welcoming businesses and employers to the launch event of Hull Resilience Hub later this month.”

Sir Charles Mayfield added: “Over one in five working-age adults are out of work and not looking for work and the most common cause is long-term health issues, with now more than 2.8 million people economically inactive due to health conditions.

“It is key that we are conducting labour market policy with employers and not to them. We need them on the pitch leading a change that ultimately benefits them, their employees and the state.

“It is good to see Hull showing the local leadership and partnership working that will be vital to drive real change for both places and people.”

Hull Resilience Hub launch event will be held from 10am for a 10:30am welcome address at the University of Hull on Monday 15 June.
