Free activities for everyone this Easter!

This Easter, Healthy Holidays makes a return with more than 500 free activities for children and young people aged 5 – 16. There will be chances to get outside and enjoy spring, try new activities, learn or improve skills and much more – all with free food included.

Some of the activities and sessions include:

  • Sports camps
  • Family fun days
  • Dance
  • Arts and crafts
  • Cooking sessions
  • Day trips including The Deep and mini golf
  • Yoga
  • Seed planting
  • Easter-themed fun
  • Rewilding sessions – where children learn about nature, foraging and more
  • Trampolining
  • Ballet
  • Exploring ancient Egypt at Ferens Art Gallery
  • A dedicated SEND programme including swimming, drumming workshops, art classes, boxing, cooking and more.

There are sessions for all age groups and in all parts of the city – North, East and West – ensuring everyone has the opportunity to take part.

The Healthy Holidays programme has run for several years now, following an initial pilot in select wards in the city. In 2022, it received funding worth £1.4 million per year from the government, to ensure it can continue until at least 2025. Initially just taking place over the summer, the programme has expanded to provide Christmas and Easter sessions.

With the Easter holidays starting at the end of this week, now is a great time to check out www.healthyholidayshull.org and get planning. Anyone without internet access can get online or get information at their local children’s centre, customer service centre or library.

Pauline Turner, Director of Children, Young People and Family Services, said: “Healthy Holidays is truly a Hull institution now. Children and young people look forward to going to activity sessions, fun days and trips out. The offer is so varied that everyone can find something to enjoy – there is plenty of sport and physical activity but it’s so much more than that.

“It’s important to recognise that Healthy Holidays was established to ensure children and young people can access free, nutritious food when schools are closed. As the cost of living crisis continues, we know that more people than ever need help. This project combines food and activity in a way that’s open and accessible to all, without stigma. It also enables every child and young person in the city to have fun during school holidays without parents and carers having to find the money”.

Visit www.healthyholidayshull.org to find activities listed – the site is divided into East, West and North Hull, to make it easy to find sessions near you.
