Have your say on Sculcoates Conservation Area

Alterations are being proposed to Sculcoates Conservation Area and Hull City Council would like to hear the views of its stakeholders.

Residents, businesses, visitors and property owners of the area are encouraged to have their say as part of the six-week public consultation which is underway.

Sculcoates Conservation Area includes areas of Bankside, Aire Street, Northumberland Court and Sculcoates Lane, as well as a section of the Beverley & Barmston Drain.

Proposed changes to the area include the removal of modern and industrial areas of development, as well as the adoption of a new character appraisal and management plan.

These are part of the council’s commitment to review all its conservation areas and adopt management documents to ensure designated boundaries retain only areas of special interest.

This will also remove properties which do not benefit from the additional planning controls of being within a conservation area.

Sculcoates is the tenth conservation area to be subject to public consultation.

Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, portfolio holder for regeneration at the council, said: “Sculcoates Conservation Area has altered quite considerably in recent times and is therefore in need of an update.

“The council remains committed to review of all our conservation areas, but we need the support and opinions of those directly impacted by these proposed changes.

“That includes residents, businesses, visitors and property owners and we look forward to hearing their views.”

Sculcoates Conservation Area’s public consultation will run until Sunday 13 April.

Feedback can be provided online here or by visiting an engagement event at Humber Archaeology Partnership at Old School on Northumberland Avenue, HU2 OLN, from 2-6pm on Monday 17 March.

A copy of the consultation documents will be left in Hull Guildhall’s reception on Alfred Gelder Street, whilst letter will be distributed to all properties within the existing conservation area.

Feedback also be given in writing via letter to Stephen Walker, Principal Conservation Officer, Hull City Council, Guildhall, Alfred Gelder Street, HU1 2AA or via e-mail to dev.control@hullcc.gov.uk.
