Hull City Council is proposing to invest a further £417,445 in Streetscene Services to deliver additional resources in grounds, shrubs and tree maintenance together with street cleansing in the city.
With increased demand for these essential services driven by a growing city, new housing, flood mitigation and increased use of parks and open spaces, the extra funding will see increased capacity and delivery in the Council’s arboriculture, grounds maintenance and street cleansing services, with the establishment of eight teams to manage the additional work.
Councillor Rosie Nicola, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services said: “In this period, when we are recovering from the harsh impact of Covid-19, when parks and open spaces have been so valuable to us all, it is vital that we provide Streetscene Services with the resources to catch up with their outstanding work, and to ensure the service offered to residents across the city is of the highest standard. This additional resource is commensurate with the demands of our growing city and the needs of our residents.”
A report outlining the proposals for funding this year will be considered by the Council’s Cabinet on 22 November. Plans to sustain the improved level of service into the future will be included in the Council’s medium term financial plan.
