An off-road cycle track along Beverley Road has now opened for public use.
The route stretches from Greenwood Avenue to the city boundary at the top of Beverley Road, near the Dunswell Roundabout.
The new off-road track will provide a smooth surface for cyclists, whilst keeping them segregated from traffic and pedestrians.
Councillor Dean Kirk, portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways, said: “We’re pleased that we are now able to open this safer cycling route for people commuting between Hull and the East Riding, and hope it encourages more people to take up cycling as a means of transport when carrying out shorter utility journeys across this location.”
As the scheme progresses, new and improved signalled pedestrian crossing facilities will be installed at Station Drive, Queens Road and Inglemire Lane, low-level signals and early-start facilities for cyclists at key junctions along the route, widening of existing cycle lanes at the Clough Road and Cottingham Road junction, providing improvements to the road surface and adding green branding to highlight the presence of cyclists to motorists.
Light segregation will also be installed along some sections of the route, including flexible bollards offering segregation between the cyclists and motorists, with signed routes and additional road markings to assist cyclists where the route is also a combined bus lane.
Once complete, the full scheme will enhance the travel choices for those using Beverley Road.
Last year Hull City Council was awarded £2.7m from the Government’s Getting Building Fund, allocated by HEY LEP, towards delivering improved cycle links in the region and £500k of this will be used in the East Riding.

All kinds of cyclists, from commuters to leisure riders, will now have a safe and environmentally friendly way to make their journeys as part of this popular route.”
The local authority has also launched a consultation on Hull’s Local Transport Plan to help shape transport priorities for Hull over the next four years.
