The Hull Learning Disability Partnership Board hosted an information event this week, bringing together people with learning disabilities, as well as their friends, families, and carers.
It offered attendees the chance to hear about what the board does and how they can get involved.
The board wants more people with a learning disability in Hull to get involved with the partnership to help shape services across the city, whether specific to people with a learning disability or making universal services more accessible for people with a learning disability.
The event also engaged family members and carers of those with learning disabilities.
Attendees were also introduced to the board’s specific group dedicated to parents and carers of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
The Learning Disability Partnership Board was created more than 20 years ago and is made up of people with learning disabilities, family members and carers as well as professionals from a range of statutory and voluntary and community sector organisations. The board gives a voice to people with a learning disability and has had significant success in changing the way services are provided to people with a learning disability.
Councillor Linda Chambers, the portfolio holder for Adult Services at Hull City Council, attended the event. She said: “It’s great for the board to engage more people, so we can hear the first-hand ideas and experiences from people who have a learning disability, as well as their loved ones. Their valued views will help ensure that services can be improved for the future.”
