As part of the national rollout of Simpler Recycling in March 2026, Hull’s Streetscene Services have announced a recruitment drive to expand their waste team, with 70 new jobs on the way.
In line with new national regulations requiring all local authorities to collect core recyclable waste streams from all households – including weekly food waste collections – Hull City Council is expanding its waste team to meet the increased demand and improve service delivery.
In preparation for the changes, the council is currently advertising 70 new roles in waste management, including 60 loader positions and 10 driver chargehand roles.
To support this, a Recruitment Drive Event will take place on Saturday 4 October 2025 between 10am and 1pm at Staveley House, Stockholm Road, Hull, HU7 0XW.
This event – organised in partnership with the council’s Employment Hub – will give potential recruits the opportunity to meet some of the staff within the waste and recycling team, explore the vehicles used in daily operations, and learn more about the roles available.

Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment at Hull City Council said: “Simpler Recycling marks a significant step forward in how we manage waste across the city. By recruiting and training new staff now, we’re ensuring Hull is ready to meet these new standards.
“I encourage anyone interested to come along and find out more about joining our dedicated waste team.”
