Hull parents can now register births at Longhill Family Hub

Parents in Hull can now register the birth of their baby at the Longhill Family Hub in east Hull.

Previously, parents have only been able to register a birth at the Hull Register Office, located in the Wilson Centre in Hull City Centre and the Priory Family Hub in west Hull.

When a child is born, their birth must be registered within 42 days of their birth date. This is a legal requirement.

It will now make it easier for parents to register their baby’s birth, meaning they don’t necessarily need to travel far to register their child’s birth. Hull parents can now access birth registration services in both the east and west of the city.

Family hubs offer parents the chance to register their child’s birth in a friendly environment and find out more about what the family hub offers for children and new parents.

Family hubs provide a wide range of services to support parents and carers throughout the first 1001 days of their child’s life and beyond, including:

  • antenatal education
  • midwifery and health visitor support
  • oral health support
  • family support
  • benefits and employment advice
  • universal play and learning activities
  • breastfeeding advice and guidance
  • parenting peer support
  • emotional and mental health wellbeing and counselling
  • parenting courses
  • ready for school groups and activities
  • parent or carer panels
  • support for dads and partners
  • SEND activities and sensory rooms
  • FareShare food banks and a range of financial support
  • domestic abuse support
  • smoking cessation services
  • young carers and youth support services through the network

Pauline Turner, the Director of Children, Young People and Family Services at Hull City Council said: “The Longhill Family Hub are looking forward to welcoming even more new families as they come to register their new arrival.

“We encourage all families with young children to come along to any of our family hubs and find out more about the huge range of free support on offer to them.”

Appointments at the Longhill Family Hub will be available on Wednesdays.

Bookings must be made in advance by visiting the Hull City Council website.
